The ACT Education Directorate is a proud sponsor of Children’s Week in celebrating the Territory’s children and their contributions to our community. I am excited to join the ACT Children’s Week’s Launch and Awards Ceremony on Universal Children’s Day on 25 October 2023.
The ACT Government acknowledges and supports this year’s Children’s Week theme taken from UNCRC Article 31: ‘Children have the right to relax, play and take part in activities they enjoy’.
The ACT Government’s Future of Education and Set Up for Success strategies put children at the centre of learning and are founded on the belief that every child deserves a great education and the life chances which flow from this. Our early childhood education and care
settings, and ACT public schools follow the guiding principles of these strategies which include acknowledging the needs, interests, rights and achievements of children and young people and providing them with opportunities for play and to take part in activities they
enjoy.
I acknowledge the contributions of our families, carers, educators, community workers and volunteers who all endeavour to make a difference to the lives of our young people by giving them the best start in life. I thank the ACT Children’s Week Committee for their continued commitment to highlighting the important needs and rights of our children and young people.
