Catherine Rule
Director General, ACT Health and Community Services Directorate
Children’s Week invites us to consider how our systems, services and communities can better uphold the rights and wellbeing of every child and young person.
This year, we are reminded that understanding and recognising children’s rights is the first step toward meaningful change. It’s not enough for these rights to exist in principle, they must be understood, respected, and put into practice in everyday life.
At the Health and Community Services Directorate, we are dedicated to ensuring children’s rights are reflected in our services and supports through our Child and Family Centres, early intervention and family support programs, and strong partnerships with community organisations. Our work is grounded in ensuring children and families have access to the support, information, and safe environments they need to thrive.
With ongoing commitment and collaboration, we can turn the promise of children’s rights into an everyday experience for every child.
Thank you to the ACT Children’s Week Committee for championing this each year and uniting our community in support of every child.
