Everyone Should Know About Children's Rights

Everyone should know about Children’s Rights, because these rights are essential for every child, everywhere. Children are not just the leaders of tomorrow—they are people with needs, dreams, and voices that matter today. Knowing about Children’s Rights helps us understand what every child deserves: to grow up in a safe, caring, and supportive environment where they can thrive. These Rights aren’t just ideas—they are legal and moral promises to children around the world. They include the right to an education, good healthcare, clean water, nutritious food, and protection from violence and harm. Children also have the right to express themselves, play, and have their opinions listened to.

Unfortunately, too many children around the world are still being denied these basic rights. Poverty, war, discrimination, and neglect are real barriers that many young people face each day. That’s why it’s so important for all of us—adults, youth, communities, and leaders—to know about Children’s Rights and to defend them. When more people understand these rights, they are more likely to take action to protect and support young people.

Everyone should know about Children’s Rights because protecting them doesn’t just help children—it helps build a better world for everyone. When we give children what they need to be healthy, confident, and included, we help create communities that are stronger and more fair. We should listen to what young people have to say, involve them in decisions, and help them feel seen and valued.

Raising awareness is the first step. Real change happens when we speak up, support the right laws and programs, and take action together. Because when we protect the rights of children, we protect our shared future—and our shared humanity.

ACT Children’s Week is proud to play a small part in supporting and recognising local individuals and organisations who are committed to improving the understanding of Children’s Rights and their implementation.
